Researchers of the Montréal
Heart Institute head up extensive international studies
aimed at reducing atherosclerosisÂthe number
one cause of death worldwideÂand finding the
optimal treatment for atrial fibrillation, a disorder of
the heart rhythm that causes the greatest number of
symptoms.

The Centre's researchers publish an average of 180
scientific articles per year, most often in prestigious
international journals, including The New England Journal of
Medicine.
As an undeniable indication that it is respected by
its peers, the Research Centre of the Montréal Heart
Institute is extremely well represented, as evidenced by the
following examples:

From 1999 to 2002, the American College of
Cardiology selected an average of 33% of all papers submitted
for its annual scientific meeting. It selected 61% of the texts
submitted by the MHI.

In 1995-1996 and 1996-1997, the European Society
of Cardiology selected 33% of all papers
submittedÂ67% in the MHI's case.

From 1999 to 2002, the American Heart Association
selected an average of 30% of the papers it
receivedÂ58% in the MHI's case.

From 1999 to 2002, the Canadian Cardiovascular
Society accepted an average of 75% of the abstracts submitted
for its annual meetingÂ83% in the MHI's case.

Canadian cardiology conferences accept, on
average, 69% of the papers presented. It accepts 89% of the
papers presented by MHI researchers.

American cardiology conferences (of the American
Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, European
Society of Cardiology) accept 27% of all papers
presentedÂ38% of the papers presented by MHI
researchers.
