Activities for medical specialists
Monthly conference entitled Lundis de Kirklin
90-minute monthly meeting held on a Monday evening, touching on a particular aspect of cardiac surgery, organized by cardiac surgeons and cardiac surgery residents at the MHI.
Annual medical-surgical conference
Annual symposium for cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, internists, anesthesiologists and residents in these disciplines; jointly organized by the departments of medicine and surgery. More than 100 specialists attend this symposium to review the assessment and treatment of patients suffering from complex valvular pathologies. Heart surgery procedures are broadcast live from the operating room to the auditorium and a communication link is established to allow exchanges between participants and surgeons.
Interventional cardiology symposium
Symposium given annually by the interventional cardiology service, where, over a span of three days, some 30 cardiac catheterization procedures are broadcast live to roughly 400 participants. Conferences on the latest topics are also presented by members of the department and by internationally renowned guest speakers. Participants come from Quebec, Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
Heart Valve Club
For the first time in 2005, the surgery department launched a specific program on valvular surgery for cardiac surgeons from North America. This two-day symposium was held in May 2005 and brought together some 100 participants from Quebec, Canada and abroad. The event may be held on an annual basis.
